On March 6, students, staff, and community members came together at Birney Elementary to celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes their school community so special.
 
Throughout the day, students explored cultures from around the world through stories, games, presentations, and hands-on activities. A highlight of the event was a Capoeira workshop led by special guest teacher Omari from Filhos de Palmares Capoeira. Students learned about the Afro-Brazilian martial art and had a great time trying the movements themselves. The celebration also featured a vibrant Parade of Nations and a meaningful tribute honoring Native Alaskan heritage and the Puyallup Tribe.
 
This annual event has been lovingly put on by the amazing Office Professional, Dulce Rozon, among others, for many years and she says it’s her favorite event to help plan. Thank you to all the guest presenters, special guests and staff who made this event possible for our students!
